SDC Hosts Youth Entrepreneurship Symposium in Gregory Park to Counter Community Stigma
The Social Development Commission (SDC) is moving to dismantle the negative perception attached to Gregory Park, Portmore, in St. Catherine, by channelling resources into the community's young people through its Youth Entrepreneurship Skills Symposium (YESS).
The programme's second staging took place on Friday, August 29, at the Worldwide Church of God in Christian Gardens, Portmore.
Speaking with JIS News, Parish Manager for the SDC in Portmore, Ishiwawa Hope, said Gregory Park has become a priority area for the agency, which is determined to draw youngsters into constructive activities.
She noted that residents of the community have for years contended with the burden of gun violence and gang-related activity, making targeted youth engagement all the more important.
