
Four jockeys penalised after Jamaica Racing Commission whip inquiries
Disciplinary findings from hearings held Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the Jamaica Racing Commission offices, Units 15-17 Big Buy Plaza, Portmore, St Catherine, have been released by the stewards.
Emelio McLean, rider of Johncrowjeff in the 10th race on Saturday, July 11, 2026, received a $3,000 fine for overusing the whip while the contest was under way. In a separate matter from that same card, McLean was also cautioned over an episode involving Miss Jungle Jen in the sixth race that caused his right-stirrup strap iron to slip.
Nicardo Carr, aboard Secret Sensation in the eighth race on July 11, was assessed a $5,000 penalty for excessive whip use. Eric Haughton, who partnered Allegiance in the 10th race that afternoon, likewise drew a $5,000 fine on the same grounds. Shaheem Gordon, rider of Rock-ola in the fourth race, was also ordered to pay $5,000 for overuse of the whip.
Trainer Omar Williams, called before the stewards over the state of his gear, was cleared of blame.
