Receptionist pressured by wealthy suitor despite steady relationship

Dear Pastor,

I am 19 and work as a receptionist. Young businessmen often visit our office, leave their cards, and invite me to call. I have phoned a few of them, yet I already have a boyfriend and we are building a life together.

One visitor is a prominent businessman. My employer says he has prospered. Since I first assisted him at the office, he has had flowers delivered to me every week. At times I discard them. He has invited me out; I keep saying I am occupied. I have also made clear that I am seeing someone. He replied that no one needed to know, and that his driver could collect me whenever.

I cannot claim I feel nothing for him. My boss says he is wealthy, and I am aware that money of that kind would help me. Still, I do not want a relationship with him. My boss is aware of the deliveries. After spotting the sender’s name on some of the arrangements, he cautioned me to look after myself. What should I do about this man?

Dear M.,

You may politely ask him to stop the flower deliveries and repeat that you have a boyfriend. If you say nothing more than that, he ought to understand. Should he keep pressing and the bouquets continue, ask your boss to intervene. Have your employer tell him you want no further flowers, and that any more will be sent back to the florist.
