Household remittances slip 3% in 2026 as researcher flags risk
Cash sent home to Jamaican households has fallen by 3% for the year to date, and a leading local market researcher has voiced unease about the slide.
Don Anderson, executive chairman of Market Research Services Limited, released the figures while addressing the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce/GK Capital Business and Consumer Confidence Indices second-quarter briefing yesterday.
According to Anderson, 27% of households have drawn on remittance support so far in 2026, compared with 30% a year earlier. He warned that if the decline persists, it would spell trouble for people who count on those transfers.
