Long Lane Repairs To Disrupt St Andrew-St Mary Traffic This Weekend

St. Andrew

Drivers moving between St Andrew and St Mary should plan for a different route this weekend, as repair work will force the closure of part of the Long Lane main road in St Andrew.

The National Works Agency said the shutdown will cover 20 metres of roadway near Orange Grove. It is to begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, June 5, and end at 3 a.m. on Monday, June 8.

Long Lane is an important route for traffic moving between parts of St Andrew and communities in St Mary. It is especially used by motorists taking the Junction corridor and Stony Hill route into Kingston and the wider Corporate Area. Because of that, the closure is expected to slow travel for many commuters and commercial operators.

Officials said the short-term closure is needed so critical repairs can be done. The NWA is asking motorists to follow temporary traffic signs and comply with instructions from traffic management crews.

Road users are being told to build in extra time for their journeys, especially at busy travel hours, as heavier traffic is expected on the detour.

The suggested alternative route is Old Stony Hill Road, Mountain Slope, Ridgefield Avenue, Bridgemount Park Avenue, Fourwinds Avenue, then back onto Long Lane.
