Residents of Rosetta district in St. Ann are calling for the cancellation of an approved cell tower project in their community. They contend that construction proceeded despite their objections about possible health and environmental consequences.

Among those opposing the development is 90-year-old Hasmin Harris, who already lives with several health problems. Harris said the construction site is close to her home and has created additional distress.

She is worried about possible radiation after the tower becomes operational, as well as vibrations caused by heavy machinery during construction. Harris also pointed to cracks near a window at her home and stones placed there for support.

Other residents have joined the opposition, saying the tower's proximity to their homes has heightened their concerns amid existing illnesses in the area. They want the project stopped because of what they regard as potential dangers to their health and the surrounding environment.

One resident said her family moved to the community a few years ago and that her husband was approached about signing a document connected to the cellular site. She said he refused because he believed the development could be dangerous.

Residents reported that work was previously suspended after neighbours living near the proposed tower protested. However, they said preparations at the location recently started again.

They have also complained that the wider community was not properly consulted before construction began. One resident said she heard that a meeting was planned at a community centre, but found no one there when she arrived. A neighbour later told her it had been postponed, and she said she received no further information.

Jennifer Brown Cunningham, chief executive officer of the St. Ann Municipal Corporation, said the company undertaking the construction held a consultation with several residents on January 29, 2026. She also said a town crier promoted the meeting across the community for two weeks beforehand.
