Richie Flo Steps Up Album Push After St Thomas Homecoming

1 min readSt. Thomas

Reggae vocalist Richie Flo travelled to St Thomas in June — his first visit to the eastern parish since Hurricane Melissa devastated parts of Jamaica last October. The homecoming has given fresh momentum to his campaign for St Thomas mi Born, his second full-length release and an 11-track body of work.

"Coming back to St Thomas after everything that happened with Hurricane Melissa was emotional. St Thomas wasn't hit as hard as some of the other parishes, but you can still see the effects in different ways," said Richie Flo. "What stood out to me the most, though, was the strength, resilience, and positive spirit of the people."

The dreadlocked artist has spent close to 20 years living in Toronto, Canada, yet St Thomas remains central to his identity. The parish has shaped some of the island's most celebrated figures, among them National Hero Paul Bogle, entertainers Bushman and Popcaan, and Miss World 2019 Toni-Ann Singh.

Richie Flo said the reception he received during the recent trip left a lasting mark. "It really reminded me where I come from and why I make music. Seeing that kind of support has made me even more determined to promote this album," he said. "This project is for the people who have been with me from day one and for everyone who believes in rising above challenges."
