Romae Gordon fronts WWD eyewear editorial spotlighting 90s sunglasses trend

Jamaican fashion figure Romae Gordon is back in the spotlight with a new WWD editorial timed for the approach of summer, presenting a polished set of looks built around 90s-inspired sunglasses.

The feature places Gordon in luxury eyewear from major labels including Prada, Tom Ford, Ralph Lauren and Gucci. The styling pairs the sunglasses with leather jackets and high-neck dresses, giving the shoot a sharp, futuristic fashion tone while keeping Gordon at the centre of the presentation.

The WWD story, titled “Heavy Metal Eyewear Trend: From 90s-inspired Shields to Sharp Rectangular Frames,” was photographed in New York City by Vanessa Granda. Alex Badia styled the editorial, with Andrew Chen handling hair and Shaina Ehrlich doing make-up.

“It was super easy to translate the vision for the creative team,” Gordon said. “The looks are so me – I loved the movement, the edge, the sleekness of the direction throughout.”

Gordon returned from retirement last year and has since drawn bookings from leading fashion houses for runway appearances and campaigns. Her comeback opened with Versace in Milan for the RTW F/W 2026 collections.

Her profile rose further after an exclusive runway appearance for Mathieu Blazy’s Couture debut in January 2026. The source article also cited March 2026 and Proenza Schouler among the later points in her return.

After the Couture debut, models.com, described as the Global Model directory, named Gordon its Model of the Moment. The recognition also pointed to the broader rise of older models appearing on runways for major fashion houses.
