Anchovy High Gets $14 Million From Mobay Night Run via Howard Ward Foundation

ANCHOVY, St. James — Anchovy High School has received more than $14 million in cash and supplies through the Howard Ward Foundation, which uses its annual Montego Bay Night Run to raise funds for community needs. The donation is aimed at recovery after Hurricane Melissa, which struck last October and destroyed the roofs of several classrooms.

With buildings out of use, the school has turned to temporary arrangements, including a shift system that had not been used since 2015. Officials say students are now getting close to half of their normal instructional time. The foundation’s support is expected to speed repairs at the Dr. Fidel Castro campus so lower-school students in grades seven and eight can return for full school days with complete teaching hours.

In recognition of the gift, the school board has decided to name a building at the Fidel Castro campus the Howard Ward Benefit Foundation Building.

The 2026 staging of the Mobay Night Run drew more than 7,000 participants, which organisers described as the largest turnout to date and the basis for the scale of help delivered to the school.

Howard Ward, linked to the foundation that runs the event, said the public turned out in large numbers and that the effort reflects a push to build a lasting legacy for Jamaica and for Anchovy High. School representatives welcomed the contribution as a major step toward rebuilding after Melissa and restoring normal operations for students who have been learning under reduced hours.
