Always Stronger Together
JaCIRT and OAS join forces against cyber criminals after hurricane Melissa.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, when so many people around the world want to help Jamaica, criminals are trying to take advantage of generosity by creating fake donation websites. These sites aim to steal money or personal information from good-hearted people who just want to help.
Thanks to the support of the Organization of American States (OAS) and its CSIRTAmericas Network, Jamaica has been able to detect and block these fraudulent websites early. By sharing cyber alerts and coordinating with the Jamaica Cyber Incident Response Team (JaCIRT), CSIRTAmericas is helping protect citizens, donors, and the integrity of official relief efforts.
This is a reminder that cybersecurity is about people, not just technology.
It’s about protecting trust, kindness, and community, especially in moments of crisis when people need hope, not harm.
