Sone G Delivers Roots Reggae Gospel on New Single Stronger

For more than two decades, Sone G has lived out his Christian faith through music that crosses genres. His catalogue moves from gospel set to dancehall, trap, and reggae productions. His newest offering, Stronger, rides a roots-reggae groove. Vi Records handled production, and the track arrived in early May.

"The song is timely because it's about those moments when you feel like you have nothing left. It's knowing your strength is not in yourself," Sone G said. He noted that whatever style he chooses, a single thread runs through the work. "Faith is always the first thing you find in my music. Without faith, we are simply lost. Faith is that rudder that helps to keep us on track," Sone G reasoned.

Stronger follows Rescue Me, which reached number one on charts in Canada. Before that, Find A Way earned a nomination for Top Trap/Fusion Dancehall Song at the Reggae North Music Awards in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, last September.

Sone G fits the pattern of neo-gospel performers who first built careers in secular circles. He grew up in Rocky Point, the Clarendon fishing community that also gave dancehall icon Cocoa Tea to the industry. The area's deep sound-system culture shaped his early years.

With tracks such as Stronger, he wants his message to travel far beyond traditional gospel audiences. "It's an important part of being a believer. I would love for everyone to be an audience, especially those who might not share my faith or belief," he said.
