St Andrew diesel tanker spill prompts NEPA warning on Wag Water River use

Authorities are urging people to treat the Wag Water River with extra care after a road crash sent a diesel tanker into a steep gully.

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) said the rollover happened close to 2:00 am on Wednesday, 6 May, along the Junction main road near Brandon Hill in St Andrew.

NEPA noted that firefighters reached the location and have stayed there to contain the load and shield residents and travellers from harm.

“Based on investigation by the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), NEPA can confirm that some amount of fuel has entered the Wag Water River as an oil sheen was observed in the proximity of the incident. NEPA will continue to assess the situation to determine the full extent of the impact and will provide further updates as more information becomes available,” the agency added.
