Portmore, St Catherine: Taxi Operator Shot Dead – Police are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a taxi operator near the Portmore Mall in St Catherine on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Andre McKenzie of Watson Grove in Portmore.
According to police reports, at about 9:30 p.m., McKenzie was standing among a group of people on Dawkins Drive when he was approached by a man armed with a handgun.
Investigators say the attacker opened fire, hitting McKenzie in the head before fleeing the area on foot.
Police responded to the scene and found McKenzie, who was dressed in black, lying in a pool of blood at a bus bay. The scene was processed, and his body was later removed and pronounced dead.
Investigators have not yet established a motive for the killing.
The Portmore Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is continuing investigations as detectives work to identify and apprehend the shooter.
