SBAJ warns fresh hurricane could hurt Jamaica business recovery

1 min read

Garnett Reid, president of the Small Business Association of Jamaica, says Jamaica’s commercial gains could be knocked off course if another hurricane affects the island during this Atlantic season.

Reid told IRIE FM News that several small and medium-sized enterprises, or MSMEs, are still trying to recover from Hurricane Melissa. He said the situation has been made worse for some businesses that remained without electricity for months after the storm. Reid is encouraging owners and operators to take whatever steps they can to get ready. The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1 and ends on November 30.
