Seiveright: Safer streets and rebuilding drive US investor interest in Jamaica

Lower crime levels, a steady economy and a large reconstruction effort after Hurricane Melissa are drawing heightened attention from United States investors, State Minister of Investment Delano Seiveright said.

Mr Seiveright spoke at a Marriott International luncheon tied to a major investment summit in Miami, Florida. His audience included American corporate leaders, hotel proprietors and other investors.

He noted that Jamaica posted its fewest murders in many decades during 2025. The country is also channelling billions of dollars into infrastructure built to withstand climate shocks, a move he said strengthens investor willingness to grow their presence on the island.

Jamaica’s pitch to capital providers, Mr Seiveright said, is simple: the nation is safer, tougher against climate risk and better able to compete than it was in earlier years.
