Seiveright: safer streets, steady economy and Melissa rebuild drawing US investor interest
State Minister of Investment Delano Seiveright says Jamaica is winning closer attention from American capital as murder rates fall, the economy holds steady and a large post-Hurricane Melissa reconstruction push gets under way.
He made the remarks at a Marriott International luncheon during a major investment summit in Miami, Florida, speaking to US corporate executives, hotel proprietors and other investors.
Seiveright noted that 2025 brought Jamaica its lowest yearly murder count in several decades. He also said the government is channelling billions of dollars into climate-resilient infrastructure, a move he argued strengthens investor confidence about growing their footprint on the island.
Jamaica’s pitch to capital, he said, is simple: the country is safer, tougher against climate shocks and more competitive than it was years ago.
