Shaggy adds New Zealand platinum to his global Certifications

Shaggy’s 2002 hit “Hey Sexy Lady,” featuring vocals from Brian & Tony Gold, has officially been certified Platinum in New Zealand. According to Recorded Music NZ, the track surpassed 30,000 units in combined streams and sales equivalents as of June 4.

“Hey Sexy Lady,” which remains one of the biggest hits of Shaggy’s career, had previously earned Platinum certifications in Australia for 70,000 units and Canada for 100,000 units, while also reaching Gold status in Belgium. Earlier this year, the song was additionally certified Silver in the United Kingdom after surpassing 200,000 units.

The track served as the lead single from Shaggy’s sixth studio album Lucky Day and became one of the standout records from producer Christopher Birch’s iconic Sexy Lady Explosion riddim. The project also spawned hits such as T.O.K.’s “She’s Hot,” Tanto Metro & Devonte’s

Wayne Marshall’s “Marshall Town,” and Degree’s “Bounce Somebody.”

However, “Hey Sexy Lady” became the riddim’s biggest international breakout, further cementing Shaggy’s dominance during one of the strongest periods of his global career. To date, the track has surpassed 231 million streams on Spotify.
