Shaheem Gordon Returns With Caymanas Park Win On Himaya

Apprentice rider Shaheem Gordon made an immediate impact on his comeback to racing on Saturday, May 23, getting Himaya home in front in race four at Caymanas Park.

The mount was Gordon’s first since he was sidelined for six weeks after coming off Get A Pepsi in the 10th race on Easter Monday, April 6, 2026. That incident resulted in a concussion and required him to spend a brief period in hospital.

Gordon had five bookings on the programme, and the Jason DaCosta-conditioned Himaya gave him a winning start. The contest was an Optional Claiming event for horses three years old and older, run over seven furlongs, or 1,400 metres.

When the gates opened, Sir Wong Don, partnered by Raddesh Roman, went forward and was followed by Prince Marshall and Richie Shakes. Himaya, meanwhile, settled close to the rear, racing second from last in the early stages.

Sir Wong Don widened his advantage as the field straightened for the run home and appeared to be in full control. Himaya still had plenty to do approaching the last two furlongs, or 400 metres, before Gordon switched the roan mare towards the rail and asked her for her finish.

With Sir Wong Don weakening late, Himaya kept closing and arrived in time to take the race by a head. Money Box, ridden by Romane Gordon, finished third, another four and a half lengths behind.

The clock stopped at 1:30.1, after fractions of 23.3, 47.4 and 1:15.1. Himaya has now won three times from 51 appearances, lifting her total career stakes to just under $3.5 million.
