CLARENDON, Jamaica — A woman who operated a shop on the Alston main road near Spalding in northern Clarendon was fatally shot at her business on Friday afternoon.
Residents identified her only by the alias "Shine".
Early reports say that at about 4:30 pm an armed assailant attacked the shopkeeper at her roadside outlet, fired several rounds that struck her repeatedly, then escaped.
Police were called and she was taken for medical treatment, but hospital staff declared her dead on arrival.
Manchester police have not yet identified a motive for the attack. Alston lies within Clarendon geographically, yet the Manchester police division holds operational responsibility for the area.
