Simone Biles, the seven-time Olympic champion, says she recently faced a major medical emergency that she described as “almost dying.” The American gymnastics star posted images on Instagram of hospital wristbands and a heart-rate monitor, saying the episode ranked among the most frightening moments she has experienced.

Biles said she is now recovering in bed, but did not disclose what caused the incident. She told followers she would explain “sooner or later” and thanked her close circle for visits, messages and flowers during her recovery.
