Soulja Boy Could Forfeit BMI Royalties as Ex-Partner Pursues $4.25 Million Court Award
American rapper Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, risks losing upcoming royalty payments as a former assistant and ex-girlfriend takes steps to recover a US$4.25 million court award against him.
The claimant appears in legal filings under the name Jane Doe. She has submitted notice that she intends to put his BMI royalty rights up for sale to the top bidder unless the outstanding debt is settled.
A jury in April 2025 ruled that Way was responsible for sexual battery, assault, sexual harassment, emotional distress and unpaid wages. The performer has rejected those findings, insisted he is not guilty, and filed an appeal.
