Spanish Town Primary win 2026 INSPORTS National Primary Schools Championships
Spanish Town Primary captured the 2026 INSPORTS National Primary Schools Championships on Saturday, May 30, edging defending champions License Primary 234 points to 226 after three days of competition at the National Stadium in Kingston.
The St. Catherine school sealed the title in the final race, the boys’ open 4x200 metres, where its team ran a meet-record 1:42.67. The victory capped a late surge after License had carried a narrow lead into the closing events.
Spanish Town also picked up crucial field points through Joshua Williams, who won the boys’ open long jump with a record 5.56 metres. Teammate Tquin Douglas was third with 5.03m, while Barracks Road’s Damir Hills took silver with 5.18m.
License stayed in contention deep into the afternoon, but a disqualification in the girls’ 800m sprint medley hurt their title defence. Halfway Tree later won the girls’ open 4x200m in 1:50.94, ahead of License in 1:51.41 and Spanish Town in 1:52.80.
Halfway Tree finished third overall on 105.5 points, followed by Naggo Head Primary on 98 and Barracks Road Primary on 68. St. John’s Primary placed sixth with 67 points, Greater Portmore ended seventh on 58, Lawrence Tavern eighth on 57, St. Richard’s ninth on 47 and Rosseau Primary 10th on 46.
Among the day’s standout performances, Jamar Amos of Spanish Town broke the boys’ open 800m record with 2:16.39. Duhaney Park also set a new boys’ 800m sprint medley record of 1:52.17. In the girls’ open 800m, Sashana Wright of Carisbrook won in 2:34.90.
Spanish Town’s final total was enough to take the crown from License, whose title bid ended eight points short despite another strong championship campaign.
