St. James SSP says slight murder uptick no cause for panic

1 min readSt. James

Senior Superintendent Eron Samuels, who heads the St. James Police Division, has told residents there is little reason to panic over a modest climb in homicide figures for the parish this year.

Samuels spoke at today’s sitting of the St. James Municipal Corporation. He reported that investigators have logged 37 murders to date in 2026 — seven more than at the same point in the previous year.

According to the SSP, a rise in disputes between individuals has helped push the tally higher. He gave an undertaking that the force will keep working with partners across the parish to hold crime in check.
