St Catherine man charged after woman reports Tinder date turned into gunpoint abduction and rape
Police say a meeting arranged through the Tinder dating app ended in a violent chain of events for a 43-year-old woman, who reported being taken at gunpoint to a Portmore motel, sexually assaulted, robbed, and left in St Andrew.
Thirty-three-year-old Demoy Rayon Pennington, a bar operator from Tremelsworth district in St Mary, was charged on Tuesday, June 30, with forcible abduction, rape, and robbery with aggravation. Detectives in St Catherine carried out the investigation that led to the charges.
According to police, the complainant connected with Pennington on Tinder in early April 2026. Investigators said he claimed to know her, and the pair kept in contact until they set a meeting for about 3 p.m. on April 25 on Hagley Park Road in St Andrew.
The woman got into Pennington's motor car, police said, and he drove in the direction of Portmore, St Catherine. During the trip, she asked where he was heading. Officers said he then produced a handgun and threatened her.
She was taken to a motel on Port Henderson Road in Portmore, where Pennington is alleged to have paid for a room and raped her. Afterward, police said, he drove her back toward the Corporate Area, took her handbag with bank cards and a cellular phone, and left.
The woman reported the matter to the police, triggering an inquiry. Pennington was arrested in June, placed on an identification parade, and picked out by the complainant. After a question-and-answer session, he was formally charged.
