Wilson Thomas dies in Ewarton house blaze on Coghiel Road

Authorities in St Catherine are examining how farmer Wilson Thomas died after a blaze reduced his Ewarton residence to ashes on Tuesday.

Thomas’s badly burned body was located once the flames had been put out. Officers say the fire was spotted about 4:00 p.m. on July 21 at a dwelling on Coghiel Road in Ewarton.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade was called to the scene and fought the blaze. While crews were damping down after bringing the fire under control, they discovered Thomas inside the ruined house.

Investigators documented the site, and his remains were taken to the morgue for a post-mortem. Police say they are still working to establish what started the fire and how Thomas came to die.
