St. Catherine mourns three killed in Trelawny crash as police seek missing Kingston woman

Residents of St. John's Road on the outskirts of Spanish Town, St. Catherine, are mourning three men who died last Friday in a head-on collision near Falmouth, Trelawny.

Anthony Rose, 65, Marlon Thompson and Oneil Campbell left home about 4:30 a.m. for Cornwall Street in Falmouth to deliver motor vehicle parts, a trip they made regularly. Less than three miles from their destination, a Trelawny minibus reportedly tried to overtake other vehicles and struck their truck head-on. Rose and his colleagues died at the scene and were cut from the wreckage by Falmouth firefighters. Four people in the minibus also died; its driver remains hospitalised in serious condition.

Black bunting lined the street on Thursday as relatives struggled with the loss. Rose's aunt, Elmina Henry, said she last saw him the night before the journey. "Me just thought ball ball. Up to now I can't come to it. I can't eat since I hear the news," she said.

Marvelin Willis, mother of 49-year-old Thompson, her only son, walked him to the gate that morning and told him, "God go with you." After hearing radio reports of a deadly crash near Falmouth, she dialled his nickname Bally repeatedly without answer. "It's hard. He's my only son. I wasn't expecting this," she said.

Oneil Campbell's mother, Delary McLaughlin, said his last words included a promise to work hard to buy her a house so she could stop paying rent. About 5:00 a.m., he sent a birthday greeting to mentor Stanley Cruz, a businessman and reggae artist; Cruz later saw WhatsApp blue ticks confirming it had been read and prepared a candlelight vigil. "This youth is a good youth. He is real as real can be," Cruz said.

Separately, Antoinette Rose Green is appealing for help finding her daughter Moesha Hyatt, 24, missing since February 20. Olympic Gardens police say Hyatt was last seen about 3:30 p.m. that Friday on Princess Street in downtown Kingston. She is of dark complexion, slim build and about 5 ft 5 in tall, and has a four-year-old son. "I want back my daughter," Rose Green said. In St. Elizabeth, Ryan Osbourne, also known as Bug Head, was fatally shot about 5:15 a.m. Friday during a targeted police operation in Knoxwood near Burnt Savannah. Police say he allegedly confronted officers with a firearm, was taken to hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. A .38 revolver was seized. Officers described him as a member of the Ghetto Criminal Network who had reportedly been hiding in the parish.

Hanover police have released a composite sketch of a suspect wanted over a robbery and assault on Main Street in Lucea about 11:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4. Reports say the man and others held a victim at gunpoint and stole cash and a cellular phone. Possible charges include assault at common law, robbery with aggravation and Firearms Act breaches.
