St Catherine police probe Quarry Hill killing, March Pen violence and other major crime reports

Police in St. Catherine are trying to find four men accused of killing 18-year-old construction worker Miguel Anderson, also called Bingi, in Quarry Hill, Spanish Town, on Saturday night. Reports say Anderson was inside a business establishment about 8:00 p.m. when armed men attacked him and shot him several times. Another man seated in a nearby parked vehicle was shot at but was not injured, though the vehicle was damaged. Anderson was taken to Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators have not established a motive, and the Spanish Town CIB is handling the case.

In St. James, Constable M. Francis, also known as Teddy, was found dead at the Maroon Town Police Station on Sunday morning. Colleagues reported that he was discovered in the station barracks shortly before 9:00 a.m. with what is believed to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Senior Superintendent Eron Samuels, head of the St. James police, confirmed the incident but said further details were not immediately available.

A man is in custody after a woman, identified as Carla Thorp of Peterfield in Retreat, St. Mary, was fatally struck by a speeding white Toyota motor car on Main Street near Big Ben Supermarket about 5:55 a.m. Saturday. The vehicle reportedly hit a wall and a light pole after striking her. Police say the driver left the scene but was later handed over by relatives.

Senior Superintendent Upton Nicholson, head of the St. Catherine North Police Division, has urged March Pen residents not to shield people involved in violence. Police said shootings linked to gang feuds have killed and injured several people in the community over the past seven months, including 35-year-old teacher Rashin Beckford on Friday. Nicholson named several persons of interest, including Andre Parker, Ricardo Nicholson, Shemar Burton and Rajim Burton, and asked them to report to the St. Catherine North CIB.

In the St. Catherine Parish Court, a 48-year-old taxi operator accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old passenger was granted $500,000 bail. He is charged with sexual touching and forcible abduction and is to return to court on September 11, 2026.

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness also said downtown Kingston needs major intervention, citing problems with sewage, roads and deteriorating buildings. Separately, Deputy Superintendent Kevin Francis said police and transport authorities are using Road Safety Month to push motorists to keep vehicles and documents in order and reduce crashes, especially involving motorcycles.
