St Catherine resident Dean Dawson was convicted Tuesday of harbouring fugitive Glendon Bull Amos, who was wanted for murder and shootings. Dawson received an 18-month sentence but was released because he had already spent 18 months in custody. Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Allene told him, "Mr. Dawson, you are found guilty. However, you have spent 18 months in custody and the court has sentenced you to 18 months imprisonment. So, you are sentenced to time served." His attorney, Tedison Jackson, said Dawson accepted the verdict, adding, "I would have felt more justified if he was acquitted, but he seems all right with the verdict." Dawson was arrested on January 29, 2025, after police pursued his Toyota Isis along the St Catherine leg of Highway 2000 to Maneg Estate, where Amos was found with him.

Minister of National Security Dr Horace Chang told the 11th biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Montego Bay on Tuesday that reports Jamaica might accept up to 10,000 United States deportees were false. He said talks concern a third-country nationals arrangement, with no more than 25 such individuals in Jamaica at any time and fewer than 50 per fortnight, coordinated with the International Organization for Migration for onward return to home countries. Chang said the measure is a transitional memorandum of understanding, not a binding agreement, that US costs would be covered, and that persons with criminal records would not be accepted.
