Spanish Town, St Catherine: A St Elizabeth man who was charged following the seizure of more than 20 pounds of ganja in Spanish Town, St Catherine, has been fined over $140,000 after pleading guilty in court.

The accused, Robert Brooks, otherwise called “Hardy,” a 56-year-old resident of Rose Hall district in St Elizabeth, appeared before the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday, where he admitted to ganja-related charges.

Reports indicate that Brooks was fined $143,944 or three months’ imprisonment for possession of ganja. He was also ordered to pay an additional $15,000 or serve 30 days behind bars for dealing in ganja.

The charges arose from a police operation conducted on May 16 along Jobs Lane in Spanish Town by officers assigned to the Green Acres Police Station.

According to investigators, Brooks was travelling in a motor vehicle with two other men when the car was stopped and searched about 11:00 a.m. During the operation, police reportedly discovered approximately 23 pounds of compressed ganja.

The two other men who were charged in connection with the seizure, identified as 37-year-old Sanjay Johnson and 35-year-old Ojay Brown, were later freed by the court.
