St. Thomas municipal corporation shortlists six land parcels for housing review
The St. Thomas Municipal Corporation has singled out six properties that may be suitable for housing and is now waiting on technical reviews from government agencies.
Chief Executive Officer Kevin McIndoe said the corporation recently called in the Housing Agency of Jamaica to inspect the lands. The sites include both private holdings and parcels owned by the corporation.
Acreages vary across the parish. One plot in Albion spans about 30 acres, while others measure 60 and 104 acres in different locations.
Mr. McIndoe said the move is part of the corporation's wider push to encourage growth in the parish and ease housing pressure. The Housing Agency of Jamaica, along with other interested bodies, is carrying out site visits and technical evaluations to judge whether the lands are fit for residential projects and whether they should be acquired.
He said any final decision will follow the assessment findings and cost-benefit reviews, and that established procedures must be followed where private or public entities are involved in development.
