Jamaica has been ranked the most peaceful country in the Caribbean in the 2026 Global Peace Index, even as the island recorded a second straight week of single-digit murders. Police have charged thirty-three-year-old Demar Pennington after a Tinder meeting allegedly turned into a violent crime against a forty-three-year-old woman. Investigators say the two began chatting on the app in early April 2026 and agreed to meet on the afternoon of 25 April. Pennington is accused of picking her up along Hagley Park Road in St. Andrew, then pointing a gun at her when she questioned his route toward Portmore.
