MegaMart is preparing to permanently shut its Portmore location on June 30, ending the store’s run after opening in 1999 and affecting about 200 workers. Store chairman Gassan Azan said in a release that the decision was a difficult one.

The weekly roundup also covered a fatal explosion on Wednesday at a garage facility next to security company Beryllium Limited on South Camp Road in Kingston. One man was killed and three others were hurt after welding work was followed by an explosion and fire.

Of the three injured men, one is expected to continue receiving medical care in Jamaica, while the other two have been flown to the United States for specialised treatment for burns.

In sport, Jamaica striker Khadija “Bunny” Shaw has confirmed that she will remain with Manchester City. Shaw, a three-time Women’s Super League Golden Boot winner, announced the contract renewal shortly after collecting the club’s Etihad Player of the Season award. The new agreement is expected to run for four years and ends reports linking her with a move to Chelsea.

Usain Bolt also reacted after American sprinter Fred Kerley failed to break his 100-metre world record. Kerley had said he would beat Bolt’s 9.58-second mark at the Enhanced Games in Los Angeles, prompting Bolt to post, “Okay.” After Kerley ran 9.97 seconds, Bolt later shared an image of himself on a private jet with the caption, “national treasure.”

The programme also highlighted a relationship letter from a 40-year-old woman who said intimacy with her 42-year-old husband has declined. The couple, who have five children, steady jobs and a helper twice weekly, are not as sexually active as before, she said. She does not believe he is seeing another woman, while the pastor suggested he may simply be tired and no longer a young man.
