Supreme Court Backs $12m St Ann Highway Land Payout

1 min readSt. Ann

The Supreme Court has kept a $12-million payout in place for St Ann homeowners Morvick Hyde and Sheridene Drummond-Hyde, whose land was taken by the Government for Highway 2000 Phase 2A.

The couple asked for more, pointing to a valuation of about $16.48 million. Justice Kirk Anderson rejected that material, finding it inadmissible and not properly supported.

Anderson accepted the Commissioner of Lands’ assessment, which valued the property at $8 million to $8.5 million when it was acquired. The court also turned down claims for legal fees and business losses, saying the final figure was fair under the Land Acquisition Act.
