Apprentice jockey Tajay Suckoo is now the talk of Jamaica’s racing fraternity. The in-form apprentice has been riding up a storm at Caymanas Park, regularly visiting the winner’s enclosure.
On Saturday, June 27, Suckoo rode three winners, all in trophy races.
He captured the Evolve Trophy in the opening race over six and a half furlongs aboard Noble Sovereign for trainer D.F. Clarke, defeating Don’t Tell Lou Lou.
Later that afternoon, he continued his winning form by taking the Lotto Trophy over seven and a half furlongs aboard Kusmi for trainer Anthony Nunes.
He completed his treble by winning the Super Lotto Trophy over seven furlongs aboard Abudar, trained by Hall of Fame conditioner Richard Azan.
The following day, Suckoo recorded another riding treble during the two-day racing carnival. His winners were Delta Gamma, Design Diva, and Miss Groove.
Those victories moved him into fourth place in the jockeys’ championship standings with 31 wins. The championship is currently led by Radesh Roman with 54 wins, followed by Tevin Foster with 41 and Dane Dawkins with 38.
Suckoo is scheduled to ride three horses on Saturday, July 4, and hopes to continue his outstanding form. His primary goal is to finish the season as champion apprentice, although he remains open to achieving even greater success.
