Tarrus Riley honoured with Lauderdale Lakes day after Caribbean Unity Fest performance
Tarrus Riley has received a civic honour in South Florida, with the City of Lauderdale Lakes issuing a proclamation naming June 5 as Tarrus Riley Day after his appearance at the Caribbean American Unity Fest.
Riley was in the area over the weekend for the festival, where the city recognised him for music that it said has inspired audiences, supported Caribbean culture and helped strengthen communities. In announcing the honour, Lauderdale Lakes described him as one of reggae’s leading and most influential voices.
The city also noted that Riley’s headline set at the event brought thousands together for a celebration centred on Caribbean heritage, music and culture. Responding on social media, the singer wrote, "I'm grateful and aiming higher and higher every day. Moments like these are fuel for my mind and my mission."
In international entertainment news, Katy Perry said she feels more settled in her life because of her relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The Grammy-nominated artiste made the comments during a question-and-answer session after the premiere of her Lifetime Store concert film at the Tribeca Festival in New York City.
Perry said, "I feel like I'm a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life. Um I'm very in love." She added, "And after we got the show after I I had the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that cuz I'm a little bit like a rainbow kite. I fly super high and like, you know, and so to have that anchor finally makes me feel um really whole."
Perry and Trudeau sparked public speculation last year after they were seen together. Perry was formerly in a relationship with actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a daughter, Daisy Dove.
Ariana Grande also marked a milestone after her song "Hate That I Made You Love Me" reached number one. The Grammy-winning singer, now credited with her 10th Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper, posted on Instagram that she feels deeply thankful each day to do what she loves and share it with supportive fans.
Grande thanked fans for what she called their fierce and unfathomable support, writing, "I love you and thank you for showing this record such love. Happy 10th number one." The "Peta" lead single is tied for the 10th-most number one hits in the chart’s history and is Grande’s first Hot 100 number one since 2024’s "We Can't Be Friends Wait For Your Love."
