Three Sandy Bay men face charges after machete robbery netting $10,000

Police in Clarendon have brought charges against three Sandy Bay residents — including a minor — over a daytime machete assault in which two men were chopped and robbed of J$10,000.

Named on the indictment are Devon Lowther, 18, known as Ratty, a construction worker; Tevin Osbourne, 19, known as Foodie, also employed in construction; and a teenager. All three hail from Sandy Bay. They face counts of robbery with aggravation, unlawful wounding, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony.

Sandy Bay Police say the episode unfolded around 2:00 p.m. on July 7 as the two men made their way home. The trio allegedly stopped them and asked for cash. When the men would not comply, the suspects withdrew, then came back shortly afterwards carrying machetes.

Officers report that the three then set upon the victims, delivering several chop wounds and taking J$10,000. The matter was brought to the attention of the police, who opened an investigation.

The suspects were subsequently taken into custody. After individual question-and-answer interviews held with their lawyers present, they were jointly charged. Arrangements for a court appearance are still being settled.
