Magnitude 3.9 earthquake shakes Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine

Sections of Jamaica experienced shaking on Sunday morning after a magnitude-3.9 earthquake was detected. The Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies said early readings show the event happened at around 11:45 a.m., with reports of movement from areas in Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine.

The unit placed the epicentre roughly five kilometres northeast of Golden Spring, at a focal depth of 12 kilometres. It has classified the incident as a local earthquake.

No early reports of injuries or structural damage have been linked to the tremor. Officials noted that the details released so far are preliminary and may be updated as more seismic information is reviewed.
