TODSS Warns Petrojam Diesel Increase Threatens Transport Operators

1 min read

Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services president Egeton Newman says Petrojam's $10.50 rise in diesel prices on Wednesday has placed fresh pressure on the transport industry, even after an 8 per cent fare adjustment and another increase scheduled for July.

In a Thursday interview on Radio Jamaica's Real Business, Newman said operators have no room to transfer the higher fuel cost to passengers, who are already dealing with higher prices for most essential goods and services.

He said several TODSS members are considering leaving the business because their routes are operating at a loss.

Newman urged the government to roll back the latest fuel price increases and introduce a fuel subsidy for public transport operators.
