TODSS Denies Planned Islandwide Strike As Fare Increase Decision Pending

The Transport Operators Development and Sustainable Services, TODSS, is telling Jamaicans that no coordinated protest is set for today.

Its president, Egeton Newman, issued the clarification last evening after a WhatsApp flyer began circulating, claiming operators would stage an islandwide shutdown. Newman said the notice and the claims in it were untrue.

He said that after talks last week with the finance and transport ministries, public passenger vehicle operators agreed not to take strike action before June 1. The administration is expected to advise them whether a 16 per cent fare increase will be approved in full immediately or introduced in stages.
