TransJam raises cash tolls on Highway 2000 from August 1

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Drivers who pay cash on the TransJamaican Highway will face higher toll charges beginning August 1, while those using a T-Tag will keep today’s rates through October 31.

TransJam Highways said in a notice that the revision is needed “to ensure that we can continue delivering the high standard of service our customers expect and deserve”. The firm confirmed T-Tag prices will not move on August 1 and will stay unchanged for a further 90 days.

From August 1, cash rates will climb at every plaza and for every vehicle class. At Portmore, Class 1 vehicles will be charged $400 — above the present T-Tag figure of $370 — with Class 2 at $790 and Class 3 at $1,195. Spanish Town cash tariffs will be $290 for Class 1, $590 for Class 2 and $880 for Class 3.

Without a T-Tag at Vineyards, Class 1 will cost $850, Class 2 $1,350 and Class 3 $2,700. May Pen’s new cash rates are $295, $480 and $850 for Classes 1, 2 and 3. Toll Gate Mainline cash charges will be $530, $800 and $1,550, while the Toll Gate Ramp will be $270, $400 and $770.

TransJam Highways is urging road users to get a T-Tag, pointing out that anyone who registers before August 1 can hold the present T-Tag prices until October 31. Packages that include a T-Tag sticker, a swipe card and a $500 opening credit can be bought at any staffed toll booth on the route.

T-Tag rates themselves will rise from October 31. Class 1 charges that day will be $390 at Portmore, $280 at Spanish Town, $840 at Vineyards, $285 at May Pen, $520 at Toll Gate Mainline and $260 at the Toll Gate Ramp. Class 2 and Class 3 T-Tag prices will also be revised at the plazas.
