Trump and Iraq’s Al-Zaidi Agree to Boost Trade, Oil Output and Investment

1 min read

US President Donald Trump hosted Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi at the White House, where the two sides committed to closer commercial relations, higher oil output and greater two-way investment.

Trump spoke warmly of Prime Minister al-Zaidi and indicated that several energy agreements were in the works. Al-Zaidi cast the trip as the opening of a fresh economic alliance between Washington and Baghdad.

The leaders also stated that American forces still stationed in Iraq are due to leave by September 30. Al-Zaidi restated his government’s intent to strip weapons from armed groups.

He pressed for an increased OPEC production allocation as well, arguing it would support Iraq’s recovery from prolonged fighting and economic harm.
