Trump urges caution on Iran talks as Caribbean Airlines cuts regional routes

Caribbean Airlines is preparing to scale back parts of its regional network from June 1, ending flights to Dominica and St. Kitts and dropping its non-stop service between Guyana and Suriname.

The airline will also run fewer flights to Martinique and Guadeloupe. Caribbean Airlines, which is majority owned by the Trinidadian government, says the changes are tied to a move away from routes that have been losing money after an expansion programme introduced in 2023.

On the international front, US President Donald Trump says he has told American negotiators to avoid rushing into an agreement with Iran, despite reports that a deal may be nearing completion.

US media reports say the proposal being discussed includes extending a ceasefire for 60 days, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and continuing talks on Iran’s nuclear programme.

In a post on social media, Trump said discussions were moving in a constructive direction but argued that both sides needed to take the necessary time to reach the right outcome. His comments followed a statement on Saturday in which he said much of an agreement had already been worked out, raising expectations that an announcement could come soon.

Iranian media reports, however, say one or two issues remain unresolved in the possible deal.
