Tufton secures union support for public health accountability framework
Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton has secured support from unions and professional associations for the ministry's Accountability Framework, following a meeting held on Wednesday.
The session drew representatives from across the public health workforce and was used to exchange views on how the framework can tighten governance, raise the quality of care, and lift performance across the sector.
The Accountability Framework is one piece of a wider effort to strengthen oversight in public health. It is designed to make operations run more smoothly, define roles clearly, and extend responsibility at every tier. The plan also backs stronger performance tracking, sounder financial and administrative practice, and a culture built on excellence, openness, and care that puts patients first.
Stakeholders at the meeting agreed that genuine accountability is needed to keep public trust in the health system and to ensure practitioners can deliver safe, effective, and timely treatment with the right backing.
Dr Tufton said the framework outlines how workers should meet the duties set out in their contracts. He added that better service delivery will depend on cooperation among the Government, managers at health facilities, and staff represented through their unions.
