Tufton flags Health Ministry shift toward data-backed plan on social media risks for young Jamaicans

Officials at the Ministry of Health intend to pull together an islandwide plan grounded in data to respond to how networking sites affect youngsters and teenagers living in Jamaica.

Speaking while taking his turn in yesterday's Sectoral Debate in Parliament, Dr Christopher Tufton, who leads the health brief, said worries are mounting over youngsters seeing damaging material online, spending too long on screens, being targeted by online bullying, and experiencing knock-on effects on their mental well-being from heavy social platform use.

He added that officials will weigh a range of steps and policy tools, among them laying down national digital health guidance.
