MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Two men lost their lives during a reported confrontation with police in Manchester on Friday night.
Residents reported that the incident unfolded after lawmen in an unmarked vehicle allegedly began pursuing a white motorcar in the vicinity of Belair High School.
The chase reportedly continued along Lane, where loud explosions believed to be gunfire were heard near a gas station. Several spent shells were later observed on the property and near the entrance.
Witnesses further stated that heavy gunfire erupted in the area of Willogate Plaza along Manchester Road as the situation intensified.
The two men were later found inside the vehicle suffering from gunshot injuries. They were transported to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Police sources have indicated that two firearms were recovered following the incident.
