Two meet records fall as License Primary lead INSPORTS championships

License Primary of St. Thomas closed day two of the INSPORTS Primary Schools All-Island Track and Field Championships as leaders after a strong Friday showing at the National Stadium.

Two meet marks were erased during the day. Spanish Town Primary won the boys' class four sprint medley in 58.08 seconds, finishing ahead of St. John's Primary, listed at 51.25, and Naggo Head, listed at 51.75. License Primary also set a new mark in the class four girls equivalent, stopping the clock at 1:00.54 to beat Spanish Town Primary and Greater Portmore.

The three-time champions collected heavily in the sprints, taking three of the six 100-metre titles. Kellysa Burke won the class three girls' race in 13.76 seconds, Kassalia Roberts claimed the class two girls' crown in 13.21, and German Johnson secured the class two boys' event in 13.14.

License also gained important relay points, placing well in seven of eight events. They will enter day three on 154 points, with Spanish Town Primary second on 136 and Naggo Head third on 70.

St. John's Primary's Kaief Grant captured the class one boys' 100 metres in 12.42 seconds. Grant said he was not ahead in the opening metres but moved through the field midway and finished first.

Arianna Lewis of Half-Way Tree Primary won the class one girls' 100 metres in 13.43. She said she was unhappy with the time, although she felt her start was good.

Half-Way Tree Primary later won the class one girls' 4x100 metres in 52.04 seconds, ahead of Lawrence in 52.50 and Spanish Town in 53.13. Spanish Town Primary took the class one boys' 4x100 metres in 48.98, followed by St. John's Primary and Naggo Head.

Romel Codlin of Barracks Road Primary, the Western Era champions, won the boys' cricket ball throw with 58.36 metres. He described the event as very competitive and credited his parents, friends and teachers for helping him reach first place.

The championship is scheduled to end on Saturday.
