Jetour launches in Jamaica as Tyre Warehouse expands into new-car market
Jetour has made its official Jamaican debut, with Tyre Warehouse Automotive introducing the Chinese SUV brand as it expands further into the new-car market. Operations manager Elijah Bidon presented the line-up, saying the move followed extensive research and negotiations aimed at finding a vehicle suited to local drivers and road conditions.
Bidon said Tyre Warehouse began as a tyre distribution business in the coastal town of Savanna-la-Mar and has since grown into a wider group of companies with interests in Jamaica and overseas. He said the company wanted a brand Jamaicans could pronounce easily, one that combined affordability with a sense of luxury and could handle the demands of the Jamaican landscape. He also thanked customers for making Jetour Jamaica's number-one selling car brand since November 2025.
Jetour Auto International country director Shuai Zhang said the brand is now present in more than 100 markets. He said global cumulative sales had passed two million units as of October 2025, describing Jetour as the only automotive brand to reach that level within seven years. Zhang said the company operates 10 research and development centres and employs more than 4,000 engineers globally, with a focus on vehicles adapted for different markets rather than simple exports. He said Hi-Pro Automotive is the exclusive authorised distributor for Jetour in Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and Barbados.
The Jetour line, owned by Chery Holding Group, was introduced in 2018 as a budget-friendly SUV and lifestyle sub-brand before becoming an independent operating subsidiary in 2021, with a focus on the travel-plus automotive segment.
Dr Andrew Wheatley, minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for science, technology and special projects, said the Wedan family first presented Jetour to him as a brand that could give public sector workers access to reliable, modern, affordable new vehicles.
Minister of State Delano Seiveright said the launch pointed to wider confidence in Jamaica's economy, while Shadow Minister of Transport Mikael Phillips said policies under successive administrations had helped open the market for firms such as Tyre Warehouse to become new-car dealers.
