Vehicle Strikes Fuel Pump and Ignites at Constant Spring Road Texaco

What began as an ordinary visit to a busy petrol station in St Andrew turned alarming on Tuesday afternoon when a car hit a fuel pump and burst into flames.

The incident happened shortly before 4 p.m. at the Texaco outlet at 141 Constant Spring Road, a location that regularly draws heavy motorist traffic.

Initial accounts indicate that a female driver entered the forecourt from Manning's Hill Road when her vehicle surged forward without warning and struck one of the pumps. The collision is said to have started a fire, prompting staff and customers to move away from the area in haste.

Employees and security personnel on the premises acted fast, grabbing extinguishers to knock down the flames before they could reach other pumps or parked vehicles. The Jamaica Fire Brigade and the police were notified and reached the scene in short order.

Firefighters carried out safety checks at the station while officers began looking into how the crash occurred. At the time of reporting, it was not known whether anyone had been hurt. There were suggestions that the driver may have blacked out ahead of the impact, but that had not been independently verified. The investigation is continuing.
