St Catherine man held after police recover 9mm rounds from Nike sneakers
A 32-year-old man from St Catherine was taken into custody after law enforcement officers recovered four rounds of 9mm ammunition that had allegedly been hidden inside a pair of Nike sneakers.
Officers have not released the man's name, saying it will be withheld while enquiries continue.
Police say the suspect was arrested under the Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act over the unauthorised possession of the cartridges.
Reports indicate that around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, personnel from the Guanaboa Vale Police Station executed a snap search at a location in the Penny Piece area of Kitson Town, St Catherine.
While combing through the premises, officers reportedly inspected the footwear and discovered the four 9mm rounds stashed within the sneakers.
The detainee remains in custody as investigators carry out further work, including plans for a question-and-answer session. Authorities say they are still withholding his identity pending those next steps.
