Police kill two men sought over Denham Road gas station shooting in Spanish Town
Two men believed to be connected to the shooting of a pump attendant at a Rubis gas station on Denham Road were killed by police during an operation in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, on Wednesday night.
According to reports, shortly after 9:00 p.m., officers received information that suspects wanted over that shooting and a series of robberies at the Denham Road outlet and other locations across the corporate area had been seen in the St. John's area of Spanish Town.
When lawmen arrived in the community, they reportedly spotted a group of men and shouted that they were police. The men allegedly brandished firearms and opened fire on the officers, who returned fire.
Both men sustained gunshot wounds. They were taken to Spanish Town Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Police said an HS2000 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing four rounds of ammunition was recovered at the scene.
One of the deceased has been identified as 22-year-old labourer Xavier Flowers, otherwise known as "Blacks". He is believed to be among three men who held up the gas station and shot the female attendant in the chest. She remains hospitalised.
The second man has so far been identified by investigators as "Gunners", reported to be from the Walton Park Road area in Kingston.
A third suspect linked to the Denham Road incident is still being sought.
Closed-circuit footage from the gas station shows the attendant handed over cash to the robbers without resisting. Despite surrendering the money, she was shot and the attackers drove off, striking her as they fled.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force has launched investigations into the fatal police shooting as well as the original robbery and attack.
